My name is Kate McKell and I am the happy owner/manager of Jar Millinery.  Jar Millinery was officially established in 2006 but I have been a crazy hatter for some time previously. Jar Millinery is based in Brisbane but you may have seen my hats anywhere from Melbourne to Birdsville.

The name of the business comes from my trusty companion, and loyal family dog “Jacob Alexanda Randle” who stays near my side for many hours whilst creating a masterpiece.

You may have noticed that I offer some hair styling tips on this site and that's because I believe that a great hat is complemented by great hair. I also happen to know a thing or two about hair as I have also enjoyed a hairdressing career that spans for more than 30 years, 20 years of which I have been teaching. However, in recent years, designing and making hats has developed into my real passion.

After completing qualifications as a milliner I started off making race day hats for friends and soon found that more and more people were asking for hats for all sorts of occasions. I have since taken my creativity and my love for hats and combined them into an art form that offers you unique designs.

You are guaranteed to receive a creation exclusive to you as I will make your hat specifically to suit your situation. I believe that individuality is the key to your confidence as a client.
